Students, in particular newcomer ELs, may benefit from their SBAC Math, Math ICA, and/or CAST assessment being presented to them in Spanish (the SBAC ELA and ELA ICA are not available in a Spanish translation).  The CAASPP platform offers an embedded designated support called "Translations (Spanish Stacked– Dual Language) and Translated Test Directions."  Note that the Translated Test Directions support is provided along with Stacked Translations.   Follow the guidance here for enabling the designated support. It will take two days for the system to make the updated test setting available to the student.

Before replying back to the requestor, first confirm whether the SBAC Math or CAST assessment was already started.  Go to the Completion Status System and Search by SSID to view test statuses for any completed/started tests.

  • If the test has a status of "Started (0/0)", the test will not need to be reset via appeal/STAIRS for the setting to apply because the student did not interact with any items.  The translated test will be available two days from the time the update to the individual student's test settings profile was made in TOMS.
  • If the test has a status of e.g., "Paused (1/5)" - the test will need to be reset via appeal/STAIRS (follow the guidance here to submit a STAIRS case in TOMS for an accessibility issue).
  • If the test has a status of "Reported", "Scored", or "Submitted", the test can ONLY be reset if the student has an IEP/504 for the translated test directions.  If the student has an IEP/504, a reset appeal can be submitted via STAIRS for an accessibility issue - follow the guidance here.

If a STAIRS case is submitted, the approval should be processed for the reset within a day. The availability of the Spanish translation is dependent upon both the reset appeal being processed as well as the 2-day waiting period before the setting is available to the student in the TDS.
